New Racing Shells for 2006 - 10 February 2006
2006 brings new and exciting developments to the life and history of the Royal St. John's Regatta with the construction of six new racing shells for the 2006 Rowing season.
The first of these shells has being constructed by Geange's Manufacturing using a mold taken from The Miss Tubular which is made of Douglas fir and mahogany veneer and weighs 425 pounds. The Miss Tubular, sponsored by East Coast Tubulars, was constructed in 1999 by Hudson Boat Works of Ontario and was one of the last two shells to be commissioned by the Committee.
Every effort was made, by both the Committee and Geange's Manufacturing, to ensure that the new shells are the same dimensions, weight and even color as the wooden shells to ensure preservation of the heritage of the Royal St. John's Regatta and consistency in our equipment.

The Royal St. John's Regatta Committee currently has Eleven sponsors for the new shells:
- Stirling Communications
- Smith Stockley Ltd.
- Newfoundland Power
- Neville & Butler
- Alec G. Henley and Associates Ltd.
- Molson Canada
- Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro
- Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
- Memorial University of Newfoundland
- Corby Distilleries Ltd.
- The Telegram
With the support of these corporate sponsors and financial assistance
from the City of St. John's, the RSJRC is well on its ways to having this initiative realized. These 10 new shells will accommodate the current and ever growing demand, enable future expansion of the sport and continue to provide superior equipment for our athletes to train and compete in.
